JEAN NOUVEL

ARCHITECT & CINEMATOGRAPHER

Jean Nouvel is a French architect and filmmaker from Fumel, France and is the founder of Ateliers Jean Nouvel. He is the recipient of the 2008 Pritzker Prize.

Architects and film directors are “presenters of everyday life”. Cinema captures the changing architecture through periods of time. Nouvel gains inspiration from films because it gives context about the city’s history and possible future. The building is erected sequentially, similarly to how films are created by sequences, keeping in mind the location and its cultural and historical context.

SPACE AND SEQUENCE

The project includes a set of cards, a poster, a book and a case to hold all the parts. Each part of the set reflects the philosophy of architect Jean Nouvel.

The book, cards and poster come together to be viewed as a cinematic film. All the pieces have typographic elements that move in different directions, but are connected by a storyline (the baseline). Films are made up of sequences of shots to build up a story. Each page acts as a scene, but are connected from beginning to end by the same storyline.
