PŪPŪKAHI I HOLOMUA
UNITE TO MOVE FORWARD
ABOUT THE REPRODUCTIVE JUSTICE FUND
The Reproductive Justice Fund was established as an abortion fund in 2016. Abortion is legal in the state of Hawaiʻi, but there was not an existing abortion fund to adequately support many patients. In the beginning, the fund was able to support patients without insurance by paying for their clinical services, limited to the UH Ob-Gyn faculty practice. Presently, the Reproductive Justice Fund is able to financially provide for their incidental and travel costs as well.
INSPIRATION
Pūpūkahi i Holomua is an ‘ōlelo noʻeau, or a proverb that directly translates to “unite to move forward”. The key to moving forward and reaching a goal is to work together as a unified community. An example often used with this proverb is with canoe paddlers. A canoe cannot move forward with a single person rowing, the entire group has to work together to overcome the rough waters and reach their desired end result.
This identity tells a story of the individual, the community, the obstacles, and the progression towards a better future.
LOGO ANATOMY
The identity was comprised of simple elements, each with different meanings that tell a story, expressing the concept of Pūpūkahi i Holomua.
PROCESS BOOK
I created a 23 page process book for the Reproductive Justice Fund identity which documents my design process from beginning to end. The book includes my inspiration, sketches, typography, color palette, variations, and mockups using the identity.
